Council committees

From 1975 to the 2000s the council divided its work among standing committees, one member reporting on each: streets, water, sanitation, recreation and environment in the 1970s; community protection, human development, home and community, policy and administration, water and sewer from 1980. Who held which committee, year by year, as the agendas and minutes print it, each with its source page.

About these lists

Two kinds of record name the members. From 1975 to 1979 the Orders of the Day, typed as the first page of the minutes, list the standing committees with the member reporting for each ("B. Streets - Tom Morgan - Stop signs"). From 1980 the agendas keep the list without the names, and the members are known only when the minutes record the mayor naming the committee heads, usually at the first meeting of the year ("Mayor Potter appointed committee chairmen for 1987 as follows: Stoner to community protection …"). Years in which only the agenda list survives say "the member is not printed".

Each name is matched to the council member serving on that date. One member's run on a committee is shown from the first to the last meeting a list names them; it ends when a list names someone else. "On record" dates are those meetings, not appointment terms. Committee names changed over the years and are grouped (a 1978 "Sewer & Solid Waste" and a 1982 "Sewer" are one committee); the printed name is kept. Names a list prints that match no council member of that date are held for review and not shown. Committees are not offices: they create no seats and do not affect the voting records.
