All council members responded supportively to the fire department efforts, but the clerk noted an especially tight budget at least for the next year due to recent large capital expenditures. Later years with rapid growth might help with increased tax base to support greater contribution toward fire needs. Should recent effort by Coralville to involuntarily annex the quarry area east of I-380 be successful, the township tax base could be greatly reduced and make truck purchase very difficult. A truck can be ordered for approximately $160,000. Paid over ten years would bring costs nearer to $300,000 to $350,000 depending on rate and term. Mr. Charbon hoped that a larger down payment could reduce the final cost. An arrangement of $13,000, $20,000 and $27,000 (total $60,000) for the next three years was discussed and will be considered with budget figures during the February meeting.
