Council member Ryan reminded the citizens present that many good people live in trailer courts and that no intent was being made to disparage citizens who might live in a trailer court. Citizens did indicate however that multiple housing units and trailer courts tend to bring "transient" residents and thus these community members often have less "vested interest" in the well being and improvement of the community Enough trailer courts in our area. Mike Scheetz, deputy sheriff and investigative detective with the Johnson County Sheriff's Department for the past 28 years, invited anyone to follow him on the work place and he would guarantee that 75% of crime cases in the county were in trailer courts and high-density housing. These crime cases include property crimes as well as crimes including child abuse, sex molestation, homicides and suicide. Larry Pacha asked the city not to repeat some of the growth mistakes made by North Liberty where rapid growth had not allowed for entrance appearance planning. 42 written letters of protest with comment were received by the city. 152 signed written letters of protest were received by the city. Total written signed protests received were 192.
