Kammerer reported that cost estimate for moving University of Iowa's water tower from Iowa City and hooking it up to water main in Tiffin would be approximately $125,000. A new one would cost about $150,000-$160,000. Kammerer suggested hiring a good company to look at the inside of it to see if it was worth moving. That could cost about $550. by McGivern Iron Company. Cox reported that he talked with a company in Minnesota who would inspect it for $375.00 and gave cost estimate for moving and installation at $60,000 to $70,000. The only extra costs would be the soil samples. The company is Master Tank Company operated by Dave Webb. Kammerer pointed out the DEQ would require specification which need to be drawn up by an engineer and would require bidding the project. He suggested waiting until Cox had heard from Webb and then discussing it with Webb in more detail. Cox also stated that Rep. Varn told him that there could be some low interest loan money available after July 1, 1983. Potter reported that installation of a 100,000 gallon water tank would lower the fire rating from 9 to 7 and insurance rates on a $50,000 home could be $55.00 lower. Council will discuss water tower issue next month when more information is available. Kammerer reported that he had not heard any more about the flood plain map. Council will discuss next month when more information is available. Cox reported that he checked with Iowa City and Coralville about photographing sewer lines. He had two different cost estimates. He found out that repairing the sewer main would not necessarily solve the problem and a bigger pump might also be needed. Brown stated that he found a pump in Davenport for $3,000.00 which should take care of problem. It is a lift pump with a 500 gallon per minute capacity, 5 hp motor, soft discharge hose which would allow solids to pass through and is submersible to be used in the wet well. He stated that Ralph Brown called DEQ and received tentative approval but DEQ wants a letter from the city stating specifics. Kammerer stated that he was familiar with that pump and it was a good one but advised to get DEQ approval first. Council instructed clerk to write letter to DEQ concerning acquisition of pump. Motion Cox second Brown to purchase Flygt pump model no. CS 3101 at a cost of approximately $3,000.00 for use in sewer plant. Roll call vote: Brown, aye; Spivey, aye; Rohret, aye; Stevens, aye; Cox, aye. Carried unanimously.
