Scheetz: Over half of them. Stoner left meeting to make a phone call the Mike hart. Scheetz: I'm going to meet with Mike Hart and run elevations. Stoner returned. Morgan: I understand the trailer court is in a flood plain. What about the rest of Tiffin? I called my insurance company and we're not insured for a flood. Clerk: The 1983 flood hazard map from FEMA shows only the area south of the railroad tracks as a flood hazard area. Morgan: Only the trailer court is designated. Scheetz: No. Because the town didn't adopt the flood insurance ordinance earlier the whole town is in a flood area. Greenleaf: That's not the case. This a matter of geographics. It has nothing to do with adopting or not adopting the ordinance. Just because someone gets water does not mean they're in a flood hazard area. You can have flooding outside of a designated area. The flood hazard area is based on elevations and waterways. It might be likely for revision now. Clerk: As I understand from the meeting Glenn attended last week, everyone who has damage now can apply for funds, if this ordinance is adopted. They do not have to be in the designated flood hazard area. Morgan: I think it's based on income. Potter: They have a formula for arriving at the values and amount of assistance. Bartels: We need to decide for the town of Tiffin, for everyone. Morgan: If one area is designated and not another, then we're not doing the same thing for the whole town. Greenleaf: They'll only insure against areas that are designated as flood hazard areas. Brown: Can we change that? Greenleaf: No. Bartels: This would only protect the trailer court. Greenleaf: It would affect the trailer court only, if Dee-Dee is correct about the 1983 map. You'd be agreeing that everyone in a designated flood hazard area would abide by the regulations of the flood plain ordinance. They'd be building to protect against flood.
