Minutes of Special Council Meeting, July 2, 1973, Town of Tiffin, Tiffin, Iowa. Mayor Stratton presiding. Present: Kobold, Potter, Janssen, Spivey. Absent: Birtcher. Mayor Stratton gave oath of office for Town Clerk to Marcia Lippert. Minutes of the meeting of June 7, 1973, read and approved. Discussion on receiving device for civil defense. To proceed to get device. Discussion of Fireman Insurance Compensation policy. Clerk to contact Dunton and advise him to get information from Harry Krall, Solon. Discussion on bug spraying. It is illegal to spray without a certified operator. To look into control along ditches and in waterways. Discussed letter from David H. Pedersen, Sanitarian, Johnson County Health Department on requests for beer permits and liquor licenses to have operation approval by the Health Department before receiving permits or renewals. Mayor Stratton directed the Clerk to reply to the letter giving expiration dates of beer permits and suggesting that the Health Department set up inspections accordingly. Spivey moved to approve building permit for Gary Biles. Janssen seconded the motion. All in favor by roll call vote. Potter moved to approve Robert Sadler's cigarette permit for the Corral subject to his remittance of the $50.00 fee. Janssen seconded the motion. All in favor by roll call vote. Potter submitted estimate of $4799 from Pelling for street work. To get another estimate from Iowa Road Builders. Discussion on budget. Clerk to have budget prepared for meeting on July 18. Notices to be posted for meeting on July 18, 1973. Janssen moved to increase city employees salaries by the following amounts: Ralph Brown, $5.00 per week; Bob Martin, $5.00 per month; Marcia Lippert, $6.00 per month; Edna Miller, $10.00 per year. Potter seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Kobold, yes; Spivey, no; Janssen, yes; Potter, yes.
