Bill Rogers and Jean Schwab of the Coralville Public Library were present and asked that council approve an increase in the next fiscal year contract with the library from $200/year to $300/year. They told council that 27 families from Tiffin have library cards and have checked out 673 articles in the past year. Council agreed that they would approve an increase and asked that a binder be brought to the next regular session.
Virginia Voparil asked council to decide whether or not to purchase their property next to the fire station. She asked to be notified of a decision on November 9th.
Meeting notes
Council will meet in the School Board room effective at the December Regular meeting. A notice will be included with the utility bills next month notifying the townspeople.
The City of Tiffin will give the railroad and the Ryans until November 15 to correct the drainage problem or we'll go to court to seek relief of this problem.
Mr. Thompson of the Lark Supper Club had mentioned that the electric company would be out to put caps on the lights, and that he would have a drainage tube put in at the new parking lot and that he would have the sidewalk and street repaired where they had been damaged due to water. However, nothing so far has been done. Clerk was directed to call the City Attorney and have him begin litigation.
Dick Buss seems to have found a "hole" in the City. So far, he was not able to find a legal description of a piece of property in the center of town in his annexation file. The Zoning Commission will have to meet to do some work on the zoning map.
The police reported that an altercation two weeks ago resulted in the premature closing of Slim's Tavern. They also reported a decrease of reckless driving in and around Tiffin.
Jan Stratton is going to compose a letter for the Clerk to type to Raymond Scheetz concerning the problem of dogs running loose in and around the trailer park. Also under environment, a tree in the alley is pushing up the garage floor of the Smith's with its roots. Jan was directed to get bids and have the tree chopped down.
Tom Morgan reported that the stop sign across from Slim's is still missing.
Recreation - Delores was not able to get ahold of the people from Belle Plains Nursery about replacing the tree in the park. Delores reported that the Voparils are interested in recreation activities at the teen center.
Barb Murray reported that a meeting for clerks (and other interested parties) on setting up budgets will be held November 29th at 7:30 p.m. in the Coralville City Hall.
