Engineer reported that the 100,000 gallon water tower was put on line today. He stated that it was his firm's understanding at the last council meeting that the tower was all ready to be filled with water but when the engineer came out to inspect before filling tower, it was noted that the necessary valves were not installed and the tower was not hooked into the water main. Engineering firm contacted Service Enterprise Corp. and they had subcontractors do necessary work. The tower was slowly filled with water at night in order to prevent large amounts of chlorine from seeping into the water system. Engineers received notice on November 10, 1984 that water tested safe to use. The automatic controls were finished today. Electrical work and lock on safety ladder have been finished. Baker called Service Enterprise Corp today about doing site work, checking the overflow, filling hole in ground and replacing fencing. No pay estimate was presented because no work has been done by Service Enterprise Corp. since last council meeting. Engineer reported that City is still holding ten percent retainer fee. Cox asked about the big ruts just north of Morgan's Standard which were not there before water project began. Engineer stated that he would add that to list of things to do and stated that none of the site work had been done. Kobold reported that Brown asked what to do with water in standpipe. Engineer stated that water would be sued. Potter will take care of this.
Spivey stated that he talked with Brown and then had Marvin Swenka clean out culverts under railroad behind alley behind Summerhays Street.
Council consensus to instruct attorney to send letter to Ken Spivey informing him that he is in violation of Ordinance No. 83 'by permitting three buildings on one lot at 105 College Atreet and allowing 60 days to remove small trailer which has just been moved to site, or further action will be taken to remove building.
Potter reported that Brown would be retiring in two years and several people have contacted Potter expressing interest in job. Council consensus to allow Potter to draw up notice of upcoming vacancy in position of Utility Director and enclose it with Dec. 1 water bills and post at Post Office.
Council consensus to instruct Potter to get plaque of recognition for firemen completing training in Ames and present at Open House.
