The Tiffin City Council met in special session on Wednesday, May 1, 1985 at the Tiffin fire station. Mayor Potter called meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Councilmembers present were Cox, Morgan, Runge, Spivey and Stevens. Also present were Judd TePaske, Michelle Aubrecht, Margaret Beuter, Jean Flansburg and Dorie Madden. Motion Spivey second Stevens to approve request by Amanda Potterfield for building permit at 4800 Roberts Ferry Road for 10 foot by 20 foot addition to home. Carried unanimously. Mayor Potter stated that he would like to see town buy school property located north of highway no. 6 and develop the upper portion into a park, and in order to apply for grant monies, a park commission needs to be created. School had land appraised and will sell by sealed bid. Superintendent does not know if bids can be raised after being opened. TePaske stated that this grant money could be used to buy land or make improvements on school property as long as it is primarily used for the public and not for physical education classes. Spivey stated that it was the wrong time to buy the ground. It would be very expensive for the town. The town would not get any tax revenues from it and would have to bear the expense of putting in water and sewer lines. General discussion on whether or not a softball field would fit on the school property and other site alternatives. Motion Morgan second Spivey to appoint the following members to a committee to work on grant application for park facilities: Jerry Cox for one year, Dorie Madden for one year, Margaret Beuter for two years, Michelle Aubrecht for two years and Jean Flansburg for three years. Carried unanimously. Spivey left at 7:50 p.m. Cox will act as chairman of committee and set meeting date. Council will adopt ordinance authorizing a Park and Recreation Commission at regular May meeting. Motion Cox second Stevens to adjourn at 7:55 p.m. Carried unanimously. Glenn R. Potter, Mayor Adelia S. Kern, Clerk-Treasurer
