Roll call vote: Cox, aye; Morgan, aye; Runge, aye; Spivey, aye; Stevens, aye. Mayor Potter then declared Ordinance No. 1985-133 duly passed and adopted.
Motion Stevens second Morgan to appoint the following citizens to the Park and Recreation Commission: Delores Madden and Gerald Cox for one year, Michelle Aubrecht and Margaret Beuter for two years and Jean Flansburg for three years. Carried unanimously.
Cox reported that Leland Campbell would like to have speed bumps installed on Third Street between the high school and College Street because many students do not obey the stop sign on that corner and drive too fast and squeal tires. Cox stated that speed bumps might pose a danger if cars went too fast and suggested closing that exit to all but school bus traffic. Council directed Morgan to tell Ralph Brown to paint stripes on that section of road to designate walkway. Potter suggested that Campbell install a sidewalk on his property. Cox stated that Campbell does not want to put in a sidewalk. Spivey stated that a sidewalk would not stop the vehicles from driving too fast and disobeying stop sign. Stevens suggested putting a crossing guard on that street. Spivey suggested talking to the School Board about the traffic problem. Council directed Spivey to contact the sheriff's department and ask them to patrol the area before and after school on May 10th and May 24th. Council directed Clerk to write to sheriff's department about traffic problem at high school.
