Minutes of Regular Council Meeting, August 14, 1968, Tiffin, Iowa
Present: Ted Spivey, Fred Moore, Ned Allen, Bill Bream, Ralph Neuzil, DeWaine Slade, Kenneth Herdliska
Absent: Glenn Potter
The meeting was called to order by Mayor O'Toole. The minutes of the regular July meeting and a correction was made under the subheading "Water" to specify Mr. Neuzil as having talked with Mr. Woolf rather than Bill Bream. Approved as corrected.
OLD BUSINESS:
Water: A certified letter addressed to the Town Council and signed for by the Clerk on August 9, 1968 was read aloud by the Mayor. Mr. Neuzil stated that he had received of copy of the same letter, and that he had spoken with Mr. Meardon about it, explaining that the school board felt that the leased site was the best place for the water tower. This was taken up again at their school board meeting on July 31, 1968; Mr. Neuzil informed Mr. Meardon of the meeting and that Mr. Neuzil was attending the school board meeting, and if he and/or Mr. Herdliska wished to attend also, they could. Neither were there, and the only comment made was that a couple school board members stated that they couldn't understand why Mr. Herdliska had waited so long to express his objections to where the tower was to be located because they stated he had plenty of time and then waited until this late date to say anything. As far as the school board is concerned, they didn't want the tower on the east side of the ball diamond. The agreement is in the proper form approved by the attorney for the school board. Mr. Neuzil said he expressed to Mr. Meardon orally that here we are with a water project well under way, and the school board have agreed that the site is the most desirable as far as they are concerned, and if this means a law suit to enjoin us, we can't help it. The Council agreed that any further communications in this connection will be turned over to Mr. Neuzil.
