CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
September 1, 2023
• Item K-4 – Similar to the DNR grant the City was awarded in 2021, this grant has a
50% matching funds component to it. This year the match from the City would be
$4500. The money will be used to continue to outfit the fire department with various
wildfire equipment.
• Item K-5 – Unlike item K-4, the Local Fire Protection and Emergency Medical
Services Grant Program is an award of a specific dollar amount with the difference
for the item to be purchased (the Bullseye Digital Fire Extinguisher Training System)
to come from the City. Based on the estimates that were supplied as part of the grant,
the gap that is anticipated to be made up is between $2,000 – $7,000. This is the
second grant the City has been awarded under this grant program in the last three
years.
• Just as we’ve done at the last two council meetings, Tuesday night will start at 5:00
p.m. for the third and final Public Information Session on the Local Option Sales Tax.
I will have the flyers to distribute, the PowerPoint Presentation running and some
light refreshments for those in attendance.
• After the ribbon cutting ceremony last Friday I had another conversation with the
Project Engineer with the DOT. He is now telling me the replacement of the South
Park Road crossing is back on schedule for the week of September 11th. I do not have
confirmation from the Railroad on this yet though. If the week of the 11th is when
this project is going to happen, I believe we need to be letting the residents along
South Park Road and the subdivisions off of South Park Road know the specifics of
the project. However, until I get a project schedule from the Railroad, which I
actually should have gotten by now, I am hesitant to send anything out with only
general assumptions of the project.
• Attached is the Outstanding Obligations Disclosure Statement for 2023. This is an
annual report to the State that shows all the City’s outstanding notes, amounts,
purpose and classification. This is not a report that requires council approval. This
‘financial snapshot’ is simply for the council’s information.
• Just a friendly reminder of the Iowa League of Cities Annual Conference on
September 20-22 in Cedar Rapids. For those of you that are signed up to attend, we
will coordinate transportation as the event gets closer. Also, with the number of you
that are going, this will also allow us to coordinate some of the sessions we will be
attending.
