CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL – NOTES FOR WORK SESSION ITEMS
February 16, 2024
• Attached are the three proposals from the economic development data companies the
council listened to presentations from within the last couple of council meetings. With the
upcoming ICSC retail conference in May, if the City is going to partner with one of these
companies, it would be beneficial to do so prior to the conference to be able to set up
meetings with prospects and maximize the tools and contacts of the company selected. I
do also have this item on the regular agenda for formal action although a decision doesn’t
necessarily have to be made Tuesday night. However, a continued discussion on this
topic now that the budget is nearly complete is probably relevant.
• I believe the FY 2024-2025 budget is 99% completed. I will briefly touch upon the final
changes that were made as a result of the last council meeting. On the regular is a
resolution to set the date for a public hearing for the ‘consolidated general fund tax levy’
which replaces the ‘max tax levy’ public hearing requirement from last year.
• Time permitting, Councilmember Eric Schnedler would like to discuss with the council
the idea of developing a more formalized committee structure for the City. This is
something that has been briefly discussed before but for example, the idea would be to
seek volunteers, along with designated councilmembers and City staff, and have a park
and recreation committee, economic development committee and City beautification
committee, just to name a few. Eric will have some other examples and some slides to
share on Tuesday night.
