Text from the PDF text layer; check the PDF for anything that matters. If these areas are completed on day 1, there is no reason JCAS can’t move
in as soon as the building opens.
o A discussion with JCAS should happen soon to verify their long-term plans
and when/if they plan to station an ambulance/crew in Tiffin.
o Could JCAS have one ambulance at the north location and one ambulance in the
current station?
o While technically feasible, my understanding is that JCAS has no desire to
house an ambulance/crew at the current station. The proximity to the
interstate was what piqued their interest.
• If the proposed location is determined to be the best location:
o What happens to the current fire station?
o This is a question that would be best answered by the city council. The
existing building needs utility/code/ADA/drainage upgrades before being
utilized by the general public. There are some grading challenges inside
and outside of the station as well.
o Could it become a satellite station? If so, what equipment makes sense to
remain there?
o In theory, yes, this is a possibility. Trailers, grass rigs, and/or an engine
could be good candidates for apparatus to remain. The location of
member’s PPE would need to be resolved.
o What part(s) of the station would be used as the satellite station? Could the rest
of the station be repurposed and if so, for what? Could it become a community
room, bigger council chambers, used by JSCO or JCAS?
o The north bay would be preferred to house apparatus.
o As far as what the remainder could be used for after upgrades is likely a
question best answered by the city council.
o Could the current fire station simply be renovated and added onto now that the
final purchase of that entire block is taking place? Or just build a new fire station
over the entire block?
o The existing building presents many challenges and is not the ideal
solution for a long-term station (utilities, drainage, space constraints,
meeting space, offices…).
o The location of the existing building is a centralized point within the
current city limits. Building a new fire station adjacent to or nearby this
current location would set the city up for success for many years down
the road.
• Could a stand-alone JCAS building be built on the north end right next to the EMA
building?
o This is technically feasible if the city/county desires this approach.
