NFPA 1720 requires a minimum of 10 firefighters (including mutual aid) on scene within 10 minutes of a fire within city limits. In rural areas, the requirement is a minimum of 6 firefighters (including mutual aid) on scene within 14 minutes of a fire. The Tiffin Fire Department does not currently meet these goals. Seven responders per building fire is the current average (1/1/24 – 3/25/25). However, this number includes members that may have to leave work or are not within city limits when the emergency call is first reported. Below is the average number of responders per incident by time of day. The average per call from 1/1/24 – 3/25/25 was 5.28 responders per incident. This chart provides a snapshot of current members’ availability. As expected, daytime coverage is where the department struggles the most with available responders.
