REPORTS
Streets - the pedestrian walkway on Third Street has been installed and marked. A stop sign at Third and College Streets will be installed and also, a dead end street sign will be posted at College and Railroad Streets in an effort to curtail through traffic on College to Marengo Road. Street repairs are in order at this time.
Smith moved to expend no more than $50.00 in sub-contract to the Secondary Road Department. for center-line marking on farm-to-market roads from the railroad crossing to Railroad Street to Grant Street to Marengo Road and from Marengo Road on Roberts Ferry Road to the north city limits. Morgan seconded. Motion carried.
Recreation - Potter moved that the agreement to accept the funds for a memorial fund for Ike Potter for a baseball project made on March 5, 1975, be rescinded because the City does not have the facilities to carry out the requested project, providing the memorial fund trustee will agree. Judy Smith seconded.
Environment - Tom Morgan as chairman of the Citizen's Fall Clean-Up Day committee reports that September is the day set for that project. The City is in no way encumbering funds for the project, but the individual City officials are offering their services for the betterment of the community. Morgan will be surveying the excess weed growth in the community. It was reported that property owners should make every effort to cut weeds and control weed growth because it is a health hazard.
Sanitation and Water - It was reported that a break in the water main on Marengo Road near the Bartel property has been repaired. The supplier for chlorine will no longer be handling liquid chlorine. It was proposed that powdered chlorine be used at a savings to the City. This will be studied. The question of sewer and water hook-on fees was discussed. Unimproved lots which owners now wish to improve, and on which no revenue or rent has been paid since the original installation, will be charged $250.00 for sewer hook-on and $100.00 for water hook-on. If the owners paid $25.00 for a water permit when the City installed the system, then the remainder of $75.00 is due the City at the time of the request for hook-on. This is for each lot only.
Judy Smith reported that the City of Tiffin cannot publish official documents in the Coralville Courier or the Clear Creek Leader because neither of these newspapers fulfill the legal
