The Tiffin City Council met in special session on Wednesday, October 13, 1982 at the Tiffin Methodist Church for the purpose of conducting a public hearing on the request by Amanda Potterfield to rezone tract two of the Potterfield Annexation from A-1 Agricultural to R-1 Residential Single-Family Dwelling. Mayor Brotherton called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Councilmembers present were Brown, Cox, Spivey, Rohret and Stevens. Also present was Harlan Stapes. During community forum Spivey noted that there are at least two large holes along the railroad tracks in Tiffin which look like cisterns and are estimated to be seven to eight feet deep. Spivey expressed his concern for safety, especially since these large holes are full of water. Cox reported that he had spoken with someone from the Railroad Company and that the holes used to be used for battery storage and are three feet deep. He also expressed a concern for safety. Mayor Brotherton stated that he would contact Superintendent of Track, Les Larsen, in Marengo about the holes and point out their potential hazard. Cox reported that he had asked about crossing signals. The Railroad said it was up to the DOT to start working the signals, and that they would be in operation within a week. No one spoke during the community forum concerning the rezoning issue. Motion Stevens second Cox to approve the request by Amanda Potterfield to rezone tract two in the Potterfield Annexation from A-1 Agricultural to R-1 Single-Family Residential. Roll call vote: Cox, aye; Brown, aye; Spivey, aye; Rohret, nay; Stevens, aye. Carried. Planning and Zoning did not meet and give recommendation on this issue and the thirty days has expired for their recommendation, reported the clerk. Motion Cox second Spivey to adjourn at 7:10 p.m. Carried unanimously. ______________________________ ____________________________ JAMES BROTHERTON, MAYOR ADELIA S. KERN, CLERK-TREASURER GERALD J.
