The Tiffin City Council met in regular session on Wednesday, October 13, 1982 at the Tiffin Methodist Church. Mayor Brotherton called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Councilmembers present were Cox, Brown, Spivey, Rohret, Stevens. Also present were Judy Aspelmeier, Barbara Murray, Judd TePaske, Lloyd Williams, Larry Beuter, Harlan Stapes, Tom Morgan and Ralph Stoffer. Cox reported that the Tiffin Fire Department set October 23rd from 9:00 - noon as Clean-Up Day with the agreement that the department provide the labor and the city pay for the cost of dumping fees and rent a truck if necessary. Mayor Brotherton stated that he thought the city could get by without renting a truck and that pickup trucks could be used. Cox stated that the city should send flowers to Ralph Brown during his hospitalization. Brotherton took up a collection and will arrange for flowers to be sent. Brotherton reported on the land use meeting he attended in September. Brotherton read a letter from Iowa State University commending the city clerk for completion of the three year training course for municipal clerks. The clerk gave a summary of classes attended and benefits received. Motion Spivey second Brown to approve the agenda as presented with the deletion of request by Dave Ruppert since clerk had been contacted just before the meeting by Mrs. Clayton Klein who said that the request was no longer necessary. Carried unanimously. Motion Stevens second Cox to approve minutes of September 9, 1982. Carried unanimously. Motion Stevens second Cox to approve request by Tiffin Fire Department for building permit to expand current fire station per drawing with an addition measuring 39 feet by 50 feet. Roll call vote: Cox, aye; Brown, aye; Spivey, aye; Rohret, aye; Stevens, aye. Carried unanimously. Clerk reported that the Board of Adjustment met on October 11, 1982 and granted variances to side yard requirements to the Tiffin Fire Department allowing 8 feet 6 inches on north side and 2 feet on south side of building proposed. Rohret expressed concern that building sits on city property and that an agreement for this purpose apparently does not exist. Mayor Brotherton instructed Attorney Hoefer to check on any existing agreement with Tiffin Fire Department concerning use of city property and to report at the next meeting. Attorney reported that the Reeves First Subdivision was not ready for council consideration. It was tabled until next month.
