Carrie Stratton: What are our options? One way, close the street or widen the street? Mayor Potter: The truck route on Grant Street has a better base. The state has designated it as farm-to-market road. We could widen the street to the school and leave everything else alone. Ted Spivey: The walkway is well marked. It could be enough with the cooperation of the school and better law enforcement, Rick Janssen: One way then? Linda Heering: There used to be curbing there. Leland Campbell: I think the town took it out because they couldn't scoop snow around the barricades. Mayor Potter: It used to get turned all sideways and the kids would move it around. Rick Janssen: I'm for making it one way. Mayor Potter: Enter from the south and leave from the north. Tim Spivey: This is more about the safety factor for the kids than about sidewalks. You could see if the one way works and if it doesn't help the problem, you could always come back with sidewalks later. It's a matter of signs and better law enforcement. Rick Janssen: The traffic is ridiculous anymore. Rex Flansburg: Two weeks ago I was nearly run down by someone who didn't even slow down for the stop sign and then drove across the sidewalk by the store. Ted Spivey: We need more law enforcement. Mayor Potter: I'll call the sheriff's department. Dave Stoner: They have 90 hours over their quota now. Betty Madden: I saw one patrolman who sat in the alley and got one kid but a half hour later, they were back at it. Mayor Potter: The majority does not want sidewalks. If we put up barricades and make the street one way to the west, this would route traffic onto the highway after school. This would take care of the problem at the Lark in the morning. They can see going south by the Lark. Also, the delivery trucks at the Lark block the street so there's only room for one way, if that. Paul Slaymakker: What about Third Street to Grant? Mayor Potter: We could make the street wider there.
