Present: Bill Verry, Ted Spivey, Glenn Potter, Bob Svatos, Wayne Stratton
Absent: None.
Meeting was called to order by Mayor O'Toole.
OLD BUSINESS:
Wayne reported that adjacent property owners were in favor of installing a street light on Grant Street across from the Lark. Bill moved, and Bob seconded the motion that this be done. Carried.
Tom Verry has offered the town a heater for the shed for $5.00. Bob moved, Glenn seconded the motion that we accept his offer and Dewaine pick up the heater. Carried.
Mr. Tucker was found to be the lawyer both for the Town and the Fire Association, and when contacted, he could find no written description of any arrangements made by these two organizations in regard to the property on which the fire house is built.
Glenn reported on the results of his investigation of tractor overhauling costs vs. purchase of a new or used tractor. Mr. Kennedy of Capitol Implement Company of Iowa City was present at the meeting and explained that the tractor the town presently owns is too light for the loader and for the jobs it is called upon to do. This has caused gouging of the streets while clearing snow, extra repairs required on the tractor, difficulty in operating said tractor, etc. Mr. Kennedy described the two Ford tractors his company has available which would be the more efficient size and presented prices on them. The subject was then discussed, after which a motion was made by Wayne, seconded by Bill, to the effect that a used tractor be purchased, providing it passes a majority vote of council and that equipment is fully installed and chains are on. Carried. Other tractor dealers will also be contacted.
Codes. Wayne contacted the county offices to see about getting copies of county codes and was informed that they do not have any. The mayor obtained a book of model codes with explanations from the Institute of Public Affairs and some of these codes were discussed. An ordinance establishing a Zoning Commission should probably be the first one made up, with the wording changed in order to have a little flexibility on the number of members.
Santa Claus will be here December 23rd. Council wives plan to serve coffee and cookies.
