Minutes of Special Council Meeting, Tiffin, Iowa, May 26, 1970. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Bream. Present: Ned Allen, Dale Flansburg, and Glenn Potter. Absent: Jerry Michel and Ted Spivey. Purpose of this meeting was to meet with Wayne Reed and representatives of the Gas Company to discuss the progress of the water and gas in Tiffin. The meeting was held at the Clear Creek High School since the firemen were meeting at the Station. Donald Findlay and Tom Hoogerwerf of the gas company told the Council the following about their plans. 1. The gas co. can do about three weeks work before coming into Town. 2. The gas service will be put where the customer wants it within reason. 3. They would like to start July 1, and should be finished by Sept. 1 if the water is progressing like it should be. 4. They will run pipe to the meter if it is under 100 ft. After that the customer pays for the rest. 5. North of the Highway they will put in a bigger line at an extra cost of around $8000 so they can continue on to Oxford. They are putting two pipes North of the Highway. One is for Tiffin and the other for Oxford. They said propane prices have gone up from 5¢ to 9¢ a gallon since last year. A house numbering system was discussed. The Council gave the gas company tentative approval to design and present a house numbering system to the Council at a later meeting. Wayne Reed reported on the water. 1. The mains should be done by July 1, & possibly all done by September 1. 2. House services will be done in another month. 3. Chalupka will work with the gas company to speed up gas completion. 4. Usually water service stops at the sidewalk. The contract probably states the water service will go under the sidewalk. Mayor Bream asked Mr. Reed for a progress report on the water. 1. The standpipe is basically done, however there is no electricity into it. 2. The mains are over half done. 3. The test of the concrete on the footing at the standpipe showed it was well over the acceptable rating. 4. The shell of the plant is almost complete. The equipment is being held up by the truck strike, but two months after the equipment arrives, it should be completed. Dale Flansburg asked for specifications for the water pipe that goes to the houses. It was thought this was included in the plumbing ordinance which would be brought and discussed at the next meeting. Glenn Potter made the motion to adjourn. Dale Flansburg seconded it. By a roll call vote- Aye- Allen, Flansburg, and Potter. Nay- None. Ned Allen, Acting Clerk
