CHAPTER 2 CHARTER 2.01 Title 2.04 Number and Term of Council 2.02 Form of Government 2.05 Term of Mayor 2.03 Powers and Duties of City Officers 2.06 Copies on File 2.01 TITLE. This chapter may be cited as the charter of the City of Tiffin, Iowa.† 2.02 FORM OF GOVERNMENT. The form of government of the City is the Mayor- Council form of government. (Code of Iowa, Sec. 372.4) 2.03 POWERS AND DUTIES OF CITY OFFICERS. The Council and Mayor and other City officers have such powers and shall perform such duties as are authorized or required by State law and by the ordinances, resolutions, rules, and regulations of the City. 2.04 NUMBER AND TERM OF COUNCIL. The Council consists of five Council Members elected at large for overlapping terms of four years. (Code of Iowa, Sec. 376.2) 2.05 TERM OF MAYOR. The Mayor is elected for a term of two years. (Code of Iowa, Sec. 376.2) 2.06 COPIES ON FILE. The Clerk shall keep an official copy of the charter on file with the official records of the Clerk and the Secretary of State, and shall keep copies of the charter available at the Clerk’s office for public inspection. (Code of Iowa, Sec. 372.1(3)) † EDITOR’S NOTE: Ordinance No. 69 adopting a charter for the City was passed and approved by the Council on August 13, 1975. On November 9, 1983, the City passed and approved Ordinance No. 1983-117, which changed the terms of the Council to four years. Said ordinance was approved at a special election.
