Please discuss your plans for evaluating the success of the project. The SRTS program goal is to enable and encourage more students to walk and bicycle to school. How will you measure your success? What method will you use to determine whether more students are walking or bicycling to school? What are your specific user goals for this project? Your plans for measurement should minimally include using the student survey forms provided at http://saferoutesdata.org to gather before and after figures for the number of K-12 students who are: walking to school, bicycle to school, driven to school, and bused to school. Please provide a narrative response in the space provided below. BE AS CONCISE AS POSSIBLE. The goal of this project is to create a safer, more accessible route for students to walk or cycle to school and increase the number of those that do. U.S. 6 does not have any pedestrian or bicyclist focused infrastructure running along it, and this project aims to provide that missing path to encourage students in nearby neighborhoods to walk and bike to school. Success of the project would be evaluated in both quantitative and qualitative ways as discussed below: 1. Survey forms will be sent out to parents to gather data on the number of students walking and cycling to school. The form will also include fields to gather concerns about students walking to school and see if they were met after construction. The form will be sent out both during design of the project and after construction to compare the data and evaluate the impact the project had. The project would be considered successful if the number of students reported walking or biking increased, and if parents felt their concerns about safety in the area had been addressed. 2. Official pedestrian/bike/vehicle counts will be taken before and after the project at morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Counts would be taken over two days to achieve average volumes. Sufficient time will be provided between the conclusion of construction and the count to allow users to become familiar with the new facilities. Crossing counts will be taken at Roberts Ferry Rd and Deerview Ave before and after the project to determine if more students are using the underpass. The project would be considered successful if the number of pedestrians/bicyclists increased and if the crossing counts at the at-grade intersections decreased. PART F – NARRATIVE QUESTIONS Please provide a narrative response to each question in the space provided for each question below. BE AS CONCISE AS POSSIBLE 1. Detailed Description of the Project. Please provide a clear description of the concept of the proposed project, including such information as existing site conditions, trail length, number/acreage of parcels to be acquired, general construction activities planned, etc. For a non-construction project, provide a summary of the planned activities to be part of the project with a description of each. Remember to provide summary details of only the project scope that is the subject of the funding request. Do not provide details of completed or future phases of a project. The U.S. 6 Pedestrian Trail and Underpass project is a crucial project to create a safe route to school for students within the City of Tiffin, Iowa. Located between Deerview Ave and Roberts Ferry Rd, this segment of U.S. 6 is a vital corridor for students traveling to school. The primary objective of this project is to construct approximately 0.61 miles
