PROJECT UPDATE
Deer View Avenue and Tall DOT has requested concurrence from the City on permanent TBD
Grass Avenue & Hwy 6 improvements to intersection within 5 years of installation of
Intersection Improvements temporary traffic signals in 2020. Scope includes both
pedestrian and vehicle accommodations.
Highway 6 Concept and Cost Estimate
The Iowa DOT provided MSA updated traffic projections for US 6 on June 14, 2022. The Iowa DOT completed
their review on June 22, 2022 of the Prairie Valley Development Traffic Impact Study with comments. ORGIN
design will need to address those comments. With this information, MSA is moving forward with traffic analysis
and concept development for this project.
Based on the Iowa DOT’s comments on the Prairie Valley Development Traffic Impact Study (performed by
ORIGIN Design) MSA developed a draft typical section and concept plan for the corridor that was presented to
Mr. Boldt on July 21, 2022. Following the meeting, MSA updated the concept and scheduled a meeting with
Mr. Mark Harle with the Iowa DOT, MSA and Mr. Doug Boldt. This meeting was held on July 25, 2022 and
involved a review of the updated concepts and typical section. Mr. Harle reviewed the various DOT personnel
that would be involved in the process including R/W & Utilities and Pavement Design reviews. MSA emailed
Mr. Harle the conceptual plans and typical sections following the meeting. MSA will develop an estimate of
probable cost once feedback from the Iowa DOT is received.
With the potential for R/W and Utility impacts, however minor, the Iowa DOT assumes a project schedule as if
there will be property acquisition and utility relocation required. The design and bidding process will follow
IowaDOT project development and review process so design should begin in the upcoming winter months. It
is anticipated that construction will begin following completion of the I-80/380 interchange. MSA recommends
obtaining field topo survey this fall. This would allow for preliminary design to begin over this upcoming winter
season.
Preliminary Water and Wastewater Evaluation
The City has provided MSA with several documents including as-built plans, operations manual and population
growth projections. This information is being used to complete the evaluations. A draft report will be
submitted for review within the next 2 weeks.
