CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
September 2, 2022
• The Original Town Urbanization project was seeded on Tuesday and Wednesday of
this week. Everything looks really good. The project is completed with the exception
of two areas on Grant Street that still need Windstream pedestals moved/relocated.
Communication with Windstream has been very difficult as it has been through this
entire project. Start date for the relocation of the pedestals was supposed to be the
second week of August. Through numerous attempts, they are yet to confirm a start
date with me. Tuesday we will do a walk-through of the project and generate a final
punch list.
• Woodruff continues to make good progress on the new Public Works Building. We
will conduct a tour of the Public Works Department during the work session on
September 20th which will primarily focus on this building.
• Last week we had a really good meeting with Charlie Issacs about the possibility of
having a rodeo as part of next year’s Rec Fest. We talked about a number of different
ways to incorporate the rodeo as part of the event but the best way to do so might be
to have the rodeo on Friday evening as a ‘kickoff’ to Rec Fest. The location would be
on the old soccer fields and there would be some expense to the City. However, some
of those costs could be offset by what would be offered for the event of Saturday. I
would like to talk a like more about this on Tuesday night at which time I should have
a little better summary. What I would like to determine though is if the council
would us to continue to pursue this option as part of Rec Fest.
• City Hall has received a request to put ‘no parking signs’ on the west side of
Elderberry Street. As we have done in the past, please take a look at this area prior to
Tuesday night’s meeting. If council agrees to the request, there will be a resolution
for approval on the September 20th agenda.
• The new F550 chassis for the Public Works Department arrived on Friday. We
should find out next week when it goes to have the box, plow and sander installed.
The timeframe for return though is still scheduled to be prior to winter.
• Just a friendly reminder that I will be out of the office Monday, September 19th –
Wednesday, September 21st at the ICMA Annual Conference. As I’ve mentioned
before, I am very excited about this as Marketa Oliver (City Administrator in
Bondurant) and I will be presenting at the conference. Our presentation is titled,
‘Leveraging you Assets Off: Facilitating Economic Development in Challenging
Conditions’. Also, the Iowa League of Cities Annual Conference is September 29th
and (the morning of) September 30th. I don’t like the fact these two conferences are
so close together and because of that, I have not registered for the league conference
yet. Last year, with it being in Coralville, two of you were able to attend. If there is
any interest from the council to attend this year, please let me know.
