______________________________________________________________________________ CITY OF TIFFIN CITY ADMINISTRATOR REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL March 31, 2023 • Last week I participated in a Teams Meeting hosted by the Des Moines Metro City Managers. This was one of their quarterly meetings and the topic of discussion was on conducting a special census. Two individuals from the Chicago Regional Office gave a short presentation about the specifics of a special census. Biggest takeaway from the meeting was that the cost estimate for requesting and conducting a special census should be calculated and released this spring. • Getting the idea from another city, Brett has contacted Walker Welding to start making and assembling 13 water sampling stations. The Public Works Department will be installing these stations within the City’s right-of-way this summer. The water system samples that are taken are a requirement from the DNR. These sample stations will eliminate the need to take random water samples from an outside faucet at an individual’s house. I will have a picture of the stations at Tuesday’s meeting. • Last week I connected with Steve Streb with Streb Construction about contracting with them to sweep some of the City’s streets. Although I don’t have a timeframe yet, they are going to start by sweeping Deer View, Oakdale, Goldfinch, Roberts Ferry, Stephans/Kimberlite, Croell, North Park Road, Forevergreen and the roundabout. • Attached is a request from Nathan Halbrooks (608 Deer View Avenue) to perform a traffic study or review the traffic issues along Deer View Avenue. The City had a similar request about four years ago which resulted in the installation of the four-way stop signs at Deer View and Jackson Street. Please read through Nathan’s e-mail. City staff will also be reviewing it for discussion on Tuesday night. • Last week Hugh Holak, Resident Construction Engineer for the DOT, Brian Detert and I discussed and drove Roberts Ferry Road from the railroad crossing to the Industrial Park to determine the areas that will need repaired from the 80/380 project. We determined the approaches to the Clear Creek Bridge (about 150 feet on each side) will need resurfaced as well as a couple of shoulder areas closer to the on/off ramps. I do not have a specific timeline for the resurfacing but it is anticipated to be the middle of April.
