college, and it may include the member’s anticipated date of completion for their coursework or degree program. Awards for textbooks will be made based factors, including: Seniority with the Department; Whether members seeking the award have additional semesters of coursework to complete; and Whether the member has received or is receiving a textbook award in the applicable semester. The Program Manager (Fire Marshal) will award the first book to the most senior member. That member will not be eligible for the second book award if there are multiple applicants and insufficient funds. The Program Manager will proceed down the list and apply the factors as needed. If there are multiple applicants, awards may be made until all funds are exhausted in the applicable semester by seniority unless the factors weigh in favor of another applicant. If all awards are exhausted for a semester, the remaining members on the list will receive priority should they apply for the textbook activity in the immediately following semester. For example, if Fred Flintstone and Scooby Doo applied in the fall semester, met the criteria, but awards were exhausted, then Fred and Scooby would be the first two members to receive an award if they applied again in the spring semester. Generally, a member may only be approved for one textbook reimbursement award per semester unless additional awards remain unused or unclaimed during that semester. If there are unallocated funds remaining in the semester for textbooks, the award will be offered to the next most senior member on the list who did not receive an award. For example, if Donald Duck applies for the textbook reimbursement activity for a semester and no one else applies or meets the criteria, then he could receive reimbursement for that semester’s textbooks up to the max amount allocated for that semester, so long as Donald Duck meets the criteria. Tuition Reimbursement Activity The higher education tuition reimbursement grant activity provides a total of 30 semester hours per SAFER year towards accredited college coursework completed in a summer, fall, or spring semester. In SAFER Year 1, 6 credit hours are available for the summer semester, 12 for the fall semester, and 12 for the spring semester. If hours are unused, the Program Manager may roll the hours into the following semesters. The Program Manager (Fire Marshal) will prepare a list of the applicants for the activity by semester and SAFER Year. The list will include the members’ name and their seniority date, college, and it may include the member’s anticipated date of completion for their coursework or degree program. Awards for tuition reimbursement will be made based factors, including: 4
