______________________________________________________________________________ CITY OF TIFFIN CITY ADMINISTRATOR REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL November 15, 2024 • Items I-3 and K-8 – These items are still being worked on but will be ready for the meeting prior to Tuesday night. • Item L-3 – Included in the packet for the council’s review is the City’s Annual Financial Report. This document is due to the State on December 1st. Unlike the annual street report, TIF certifications and the budget, this report does not require council approval. The report just needs to be published and presented or distributed at a council meeting. • Rathje Construction is still finishing up the last parts of Stage 1 of the Original Town Project. Additional rock backfill was placed behind the retaining wall along Summerhays Street and LL Pelling has completed the second and final asphalt lift on 3rd Street and Summerhays Street. • Attached is a schematic drawing of the Highway 6 expansion project, which shows the proposed additional sidewalk between Stephans Street and Kimberlite Street on the north side of the road. This was discussed several meetings ago based on the DOT’s review of the project. In follow-up discussions with the DOT about a potential cost-share for the additional sidewalk, their response was that the full cost would fall on the City. We requested a cost share because the slope and existing utilities in the area will make constructing the sidewalk difficult and expensive. I’d like to have another discussion with the Council to determine whether or not to move forward with the additional sidewalk. • Last week’s Community Input Open House for the Recreation Center Project went well. There was good attendance and excellent questions. The next open house is Wednesday, November 20th from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers. • The Mayor and Abigail have signed all the necessary paperwork to create the Tiffin Recreation Center Fund, which will be used for any charitable donations made towards the Recreation Center. An online portal has also been created. A big 'thank you' goes to the Community Foundation of Johnson County for partnering with the City to make this possible. • The City’s Auditors, BerganKDV, will be here on Tuesday, November 19th and Wednesday, November 20th, to conduct the FY 2023-2024 audit. • Just a friendly reminder that Gene Gettys starts his duties as the Assistant City Administrator on Monday, December 2nd. Please don’t hesitate to stop into City Hall that week to welcome him. • Just another friendly reminder, City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th for Thanksgiving.
