This document discusses the current staffing model of the Tiffin Fire Department as well as
plans for future staffing expansion. This document should be reviewed annually, and
revised as needed, to ensure that department needs are in sync with city growth.
MISSION
The mission of the Tiffin Fire Department is to protect the lives and property of Tiffin,
including Clear Creek and Union townships, from fires, accidents, natural disasters and
hazardous material incidents; to save lives by providing emergency medical services; to
provide assistance to mutual aid partners and to prevent fires through prevention and
education programs.
WHY
The mission of the Tiffin Fire Department is clear, to protect lives and property. As the City
of Tiffin continues to grow, so does the need to review how best to protect it. In the past 10
years, the volume of emergency calls that the Tiffin Fire Department has responded to has
nearly tripled. As of March 23, the call volume in 2025 is 38% higher than the same time in
2024. With the dramatic increase in call volume, coupled with the anticipated continued
rise in the future population, it’s clear that an update to the department staffing approach
is needed.
Between training, testing, and responding to calls, the demands of a volunteer firefighter
are significant. Nationwide, volunteering in the fire service has been declining for years.
This staffing plan creates a path for the Tiffin Fire Department to meet the challenges posed
by a growing population coupled with a growing volume of calls head on, all while
continuing to serve the community with outstanding service.
