CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
May 31, 2024
• Item K-2 – Attached is a quote from MACQUEEN Equipment that Brian Detert has
been working with for a used street sweeper. For the age of this unit, it has relatively
low hours and miles and is being traded in from another city in the Des Moines Metro.
Brian believes this would be a great starter unit for the City which could actually last
us a number of years. The $130,000 price falls right in line with what we budgeted for
in the FY 2024-2025 budget.
• Item K-3 - Attached is a quote to install power and lights for the flags at the Tiffin
Veterans Memorial. The Public Works Department has installed the new set of flags
and potentially having them lit up would be the next step. The attached quote is a little
more than we thought it would be but as you can see by the description of the work, it
is extensive. Brian has been working with Neumiller Electric on what is necessary for
the lighting and will be at the meeting on Tuesday night to discuss this item and the
street sweeper.
• Scheduled for Tuesday of next week is a substantial walk-through of the Kimberlite
Street – South Improvements Project. If the walk-through goes well and the punchlist
items aren’t too long, we might be able to open the road by the end of the week.
• Attached is a flyer for an Iowa League of Cities Goodwill Tour event that is going to
be hosted by the City of Solon on Monday, June 10th from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. The intent
of the event is to have the participating communities share community updates and ask
questions of the League Staff in a roundtable type discussion. I would like to have a
couple of council persons attend this with me if you can. Please let me know on
Tuesday night if your schedule(s) will allow.
