______________________________________________________________________________ CITY OF TIFFIN CITY ADMINISTRATOR REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL June 14, 2024 • Item C-2 – Last month the Library Board conducted interviews for the new Library Director’s position. Starting July 1st, the Public Library will now be under the umbrella of the City. As we all know, the Public Library will still share space in the Clear Creek Amana Middle School under a new 28E Agreement the School Board and the City Council approved in February. • Earlier this week we finalized all the documentation and payment with the Census Bureau for the Special Census scheduled for June 1, 2025. There will be a Kickoff Meeting scheduled in August to create a schedule and engage their Geography Division to start processing the City’s boundaries and address list. The Chicago Regional Office will then meet with us to start the preparation of their field office. • Well #5 tested clean and is operational. We started running water from that well through the plant this week. We have now turned our attention to replacing the pump, motor and pitless adapter for Well #4. • Item I-2 – The southern most curb section on the west side of the road was grounded down last week and the road was opened last Friday for the Kimberlite Street – South Improvements Project. The area behind the curb will be smoothed out and an ‘Event Parking Sign’ will be installed to direct people to use that space for overflow parking. There are still a few punchlist items to be resolved but that does not affect the approval of this resolution. • Item K-3 – This position within the Public Works Department is one we talked about and budgeted for within next year’s budget. With council approval, we would first post the opening internally per the collective bargaining agreement. • The Iowa League of Cities Goodwill Tour event that was hosted by the City of Solon earlier this week went well. I think we all walked away from the meeting thinking the League and the Johnson County region has some work to do to shift from the status quo to repositioning ourselves with the State Legislature to reiterate the importance of local government. • The School Board meeting the Mayor and I attended on Wednesday went well in which we updated the Board on the North Park Road Project. The next step in the project will be for the City to host a Public Information Meeting on Tuesday, June 25th at City Hall for all those who will be affected by the project or who simply just want to see the extent of the project. Notifications have been sent out and information will be posted on the City’s website and Facebook page. • Item I-1 – Even though the discussion at the Special Meeting on Monday night may change this resolution, this still needed to be an agenda item. If the resolution does change, I will have the proposed changes ready for the meeting Tuesday night. Right now, the resolution reflects the 7-1-24 column on the updated wage study approved at the last council meeting.
