CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
October 14, 2022
• We had a good progress meeting on the public works building this past Tuesday. The
garage doors should be finished by the end of week. Next week the crane is supposed
to be delivered, the insulation for the attics will be done and the exterior fence should
be completed as well. As we discussed after the tour at the last meeting, we will
schedule another tour towards the end of November or the first part of December
depending on how close the building is to being completed.
• We met with Charlie Issacs after the last council meeting to continue to plan for the
rodeo as part of or a kickoff to next year’s Rec Fest. We have secured the dates of
August 4th and 5th for the event. Preliminary numbers for the event still look good as
far as a similar budget to last year. Once we get a more defined layout for everything,
we will bring that back to the council for review.
• The City has received a handful a requests to host a Food Truck Night in the City
Park. We have never done anything like this before but if the council is ok with it,
Brianna Wilkerson said she would be willing to coordinate this event yet this fall. I
don’t believe there would be any cost to the City (other than the use of electricity for
the food trucks) just the time to coordinate everything.
• Item I-4 – No Parking on the North Side of Railroad Street from Grant to Main Street
is in preparation for when the public works building is completed. Pulling the dump
trucks and other equipment on and off of Railroad Street and in and out of the
building will be tight once the building is operational. We think this is necessary to
avoid any unnecessary accidents or close calls with parked vehicles on that side of the
street. The passage of this resolution now will give us plenty of time to notify the
property owners and get the signs ordered.
• Johnson County Elections has scheduled and early voting satellite for Tuesday,
October 25th, from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the council chambers. Regular voting on
November 8th will still be located at the CCA West Campus Building and Tiffin
Elementary.
• Just a friendly reminder the next Joint Entities Meeting is scheduled for Monday,
October 17th at 4:30 p.m. The meeting will be hosted by the City of Iowa City and
will be in their council chambers. Attached is the agenda for Monday’s meeting.
• I will be out of the office Wednesday, November 2nd through the end of the week. I
will be available by phone, e-mail or text though.
