CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
October 3, 2025
• The underground storage tank in the 300 block of Highway has been removed. The
contractor completed that work earlier this week and encountered no additional issues.
We are now waiting for the results of the soil samples to come back to determine the
type of watermain material that will need to be used to complete that section of main.
The results of the samples will also let us know how much monitoring may need be
required.
• The federal government shutdown has temporarily halted the special census. Due to the
funding freeze, all related operations are currently on hold until the Census Bureau
receives further guidance. It is unclear whether this pause will continue through the
duration of the shutdown but the bureau has stated that we will receive updates as
information becomes available. We have shared an update on both the City’s website
and Facebook page to inform residents of this temporary pause in the census process.
However, as of last week, the online self-response rate was at 38%.
• The additional blinking stop signs were delivered last week and have been installed at
the intersections of Croell Avenue and Goldfinch Avenue and at Croell Avenue and
Oakdale Boulevard.
• On Monday of this week I had a meeting with James Waters with MSA to continue
to discuss potential changes/options to the Highway 6/Croell Avenue and
Highway 6/Kimberlite Street intersections as part of the Highway 6 widening project.
MSA will have those options diagramed and ready to be discussed at the October 21st
council meeting.
• The next Joint Entities Meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 20th at 4:30 p.m. and
will be hosted by the City of Iowa City. If you have any agenda items you would like to
have discussed, please send them to me prior to Wednesday, October 15th at 5:00 p.m.
• Just a friendly reminder, the groundbreaking ceremony for Homemakers is scheduled for
Wednesday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m.
