Ralph Brown informed the Council of the additional tests that will be required in the near future for the sewer system. Projected costs are about $10.00 per test or $40.00 per week by Water Quality. The other possibility is to invest in equipment which would cost approximately $900.00 and Brown would do the testing. Brown will keep the Council informed. Also, Brown requested August 8th through August 22nd for his annual vacation leave. He noted that a qualified operator must be responsible for sewer and water plant operations during his absence. Council approved his request. Brown asked Council what the status is on the new units that are being built by Raymond Scheetz in the mobile home park.
Regular Meeting
The Clerk-Treas. reported that the buildings that now exist and are occupied on the Raymond Scheetz property are licensed by the State of Iowa Motor Vehicle department, as mobile home units. All of the units occupied in the park to date are required to have license plates visible to the outside. The Johnson Co. Assessor's office will view the new buildings that are being erected at this time in January to determine if they are taxable on the property tax rolls.
The Clerk-Treas. reported that the last certification to the County Auditor's office for the John Stahmer sewer account was made in October, 1971. Billing took place for one year with no payment or certification. Billing was stopped at that time, October, 1972. No other records concerning this account are available. The Clerk-Treas. was directed to advise John Stahmer of the past due status of his account before taking certification action. The total amount due from October 1, 1972 to August 1, 1976 is $260.37.
Morgan and the Mayor reported that installing traffic signs is continuing with the help of temporary employees. Discussion followed regarding the problem areas of "picking up" on the streets during very hot weather. A preference for using sand on these areas rather than crushed rock was discussed. It was reported that immediate attention should be given to a "cave-in" possibly due to a water main leak near the L. Campbell residence.
Mittman submitted a report on the completed street work as requested by Council. The Clerk-Treas. was directed to send a copy to Morgan for his keeping.
Stratton will contact Mrs. Helen Bryant and explain Council's decision in regard to a used merry-go-round for City Park. Also, she will obtain a name plaque for the merry-go-round in memory of Oscar Bryant. Stratton's request to purchase a tether ball was approved. The Mayor will supervise the removal and installation of recreation equipment from school property to the City Park. Some equipment will not be used, but stored in the City garage.
