Subject: Clear Creek Grant Opportunity
Good day Al,
We have found a grant opportunity to fund a coordinator and begin implementation of our Clear Creek
Watershed Plan for 3 years (2021-2024). It’s through a partnership between the Natural Resource
Conservation Service, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and General Mills. The focus is on
providing technical assistance to accelerate practice adoption to reduce flood risk and improve water
quality, specifically targeting phosphorous, sediment and bacteria.
The project will implement approximately 16 of the objectives outlined in our Watershed Management
Plan. The funding will help to facilitate up to 7 outreach events, plus several smaller peer to peer
gatherings to promote flood awareness, soil health and awareness of urban and rural impacts on
stormwater. The total project budget is $311,010, and the grant asks for a one-to-one match, so our
match will total $155,505, over 3 years.
If we proceed with an application the project will require a cash contribution from the Clear Creek
Watershed Coalition members. Based on “Table 9-3. Possible Contribution Formula Supporting the
CCWC” page 178 in the Watershed Management Plan, the Tiffin 2021 contribution would be $2,962,
plus two more years for a grand total of $8,886, over the 3-year life of the grant. The proposal is due
April 6th and if there is a consensus to submit an application, we will need a letter of support from the
CCWC committing to the cash match.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you,
John Rathbun
