CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
September 15, 2021
• Project Updates:
o Rathje Construction continues to work on the underground utilities in the next
stage of the Original Town Project.
o The contractor for Trail Phase 6 poured the trail last Friday. They are
currently working on backfilling behind the trail.
o The City Hall Permeable Pavers Parking Lot project has been somewhat
stagnant for about a week now. Last I was told, they wanted to complete it by
the end of the week. I’m hesitant to think that will happen.
• We continue to work with EMC Insurance on the repair event from Well #4. Earlier
this week we had a conference call with two of the representatives talking through the
incident. Specifically, we talked about the timeline of the event, the suspected power
spike and the items that failed. I expect to have another follow-up with them again
next week.
• Another update on the City’s Soil Restoration Program: Last week we reached the
threshold of $100,000 set out by the council when the program was initiated. We will
not be taking anymore applications at this time. Once the Permeable Pavers Projects
are completed, I will total up the amount of funds that have been used between the
two (three) projects to see if we will have any additional funds left for another round
of soil restoration program.
• Last week Brian Detert and I had a conference call with Martin Gardner about the
plans and specifications of the Public Works Facility and a timeline in which we
could get the project bid. As of right now, we are planning on a bid date towards the
end of November or first part of December. This would hopefully put the City in the
best position to get an early spring start date. We also had a discussion with Shive-
Hattery and believe that same timeline will work for their portion of the project as
well.
• The mulch for all the City Parks was delivered on Wednesday morning. The Public
Works Department will be working on that for the rest of the week and possibly into
next week.
