Dear Doug: The Iowa Department of Transportation, District Six Office, hereby provides consent for the application of Transportation Alternative Set Aside (TASA) funds for construction of a trail that will lie, partially, within the Right of Way for US Hwy 6 in Tiffin. While this is a consent to apply for funding, it is NOT an approval for construction. Prior to any construction the Iowa DOT will need to review all plans and concur with the design, methods, and location of any trail or associated trail items (clear zones, signage, lighting…etc). For example, US Highway 6 drainage must be maintained and be free of obstructions such as retaining wall block. Additionally, all applicable permits will still be required prior to construction. The Iowa DOT will not assume maintenance responsibilities for the trail.
