CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL – NOTES FOR WORK SESSION ITEMS
March 17, 2023
• Brett Mehmen, Adam Endres and I met with Ben Carhoff last week to discuss alternatives
to the Potter Creek Interceptor Sewer project. We still believe the pipe bursting portion of
the project, and the tight area in which it had to be performed, was the major factor in the
bids coming in significantly over the estimate. Outside of the Mobilization bid item, this
was the bid item that had the greatest variance between the two bidders. After reviewing
various manhole depths and elevations and then tying those to potential alternate sewer
line routes, we think we have a viable option to pursue that would eliminate the need for
any pipe bursting on the project. Ben is recalculating the sewer flows to also make sure
this will work. I will talk more about this at the work session and will have a map to show
the possible alternate route.
• Brian Shay and I continue to work on the job descriptions for the Building Inspector II
position and the Construction Inspector I position. Both are attached. Please review the
job descriptions as Brian and I will simply want a consensus on the content before
submitting them to the Collective Bargaining Unit for review and consensus as well.
Once we have that, both of these will be back on a regular agenda for formal approval.
