Pre-ordering a stockpile of PPE for inventory is prohibited by FEMA. PPE will be ordered for each qualifying recruit. Eligible PPE The following PPE will be ordered and issued to the recruit under this grant activity: Item Description/Color Quantity Bullard UST Helmet with 4 inch face shield Black 1 Turnout coat Black with yellow striping 1 Turnout pants with suspenders Black with yellow striping 1 Structural Firefighting Boots Choice Between Gloves 1 Structural Firefighting Gloves Choice Between Gloves 2 Structural Firefighting Hoods 2 SCBA Mask 1 It is understood that each recruit is unique, and PPE may fit each recruit differently. The Department will strive to provide high-quality PPE that is appropriately sized by a vendor, as applicable, to each recruit. To that end, the recruit may be given the choice between one or more brands of boots, gloves, or hoods out of a pre-determined list approved by the Grant Administrator as items and funds allow. The Program Manager may request authorization from the Grant Administrator to substitute comparable PPE on an as needed basis, including if PPE is unavailable, backordered, or no longer available. The Program Manager will issue a recruit a helmet with a probationary firefighter helmet shield, which the recruit will wear on the helmet until meeting the requirements and receiving approval to become a non-probationary member of the Department. Non-Eligible PPE Recruits may be issued additional PPE not included under the SAFER grant award. (See PPE Policy, GP ___). Each recruit shall be issued extrication gloves, a reflective vest, and safety glasses out of the Department’s PPE inventory. PPE that is not eligible under this SAFER activity includes extrication gloves, reflective vest, safety glasses, goggles, and wildland turnout gear. Non-eligible PPE will be funded out of the Department budget using City funds. PPE Process Once a recruit has successfully completed an NFPA 1582 physical and the Program Manager has received written proof of the same from the medical provider, the Program Manager, or in the alternative, the Grant Administrator, will schedule the recruit for professional sizing of PPE.
