CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
June 2, 2023
• Item I-2 – Bids for the Potter Creek Interceptor Sewer project were received and
opened on Thursday. The bids came in much better this time around. The low bid is
more in line with what the original estimate was. Based on these bids, I think the
council made the correct decision in tabling the first bids, reviewing and slightly
altering the project and rebidding it.
• Although we will get a full update on the water system pilot test in the work session,
all the equipment has been delivered and installed. We should be starting the pilot on
Tuesday.
• I had a follow-up meeting with MSA on the roundabout design on North Park Road.
I have also had an initial meeting with the Superintendent to discuss this potential
change in access to the schools. He is going to have his grounds and transportation
team look at the concept and he’s going to brief the school board as well. Because of
the schedule we are trying to maintain with this project, the Superintendent and I are
suggesting a joint meeting prior to their school board meeting on Wednesday, June
14th at 5:30 p.m. We are only anticipating a 30-minute meeting so please let me
know if that day and time will work for you. I will also have the updated roundabout
concept to share on Tuesday night.
• Tiffin’s first ever Food Truck Friday went very well. We have been receiving
positive feedback ever since. City Hall has been asked if this is an event that could
take place once a month. If this is ok with the council, Bri would be willing to take
on the responsibility of coordinating this on a monthly basis.
• Original Town Urbanization Phase 2 is about 99% completed. Rathje was in town
earlier this week to reseed some areas that did not germinate. I believe we will be
closing out that project at the next council meeting.
• The State Legislature did not take any action on instituting a state-wide local option
sales tax. There was a bill that was discussed but it did not make it out of committee.
I will have some additional information on this for Tuesday night but if the council
would still like to potentially have this issue on the ballot for a special election in
September, I believe now would be the time to proceed.
• Time permitting in either the work session or the regular meeting, Eric and I would
like to give an update from the ICSC conference we attended last week.
