CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
June 16, 2023
• Item K-2 – This item is back on the agenda because the applicant has now requested a
street closure as part of the event. Included in the packet with the same application
from the May 16th council meeting is a map that shows a bigger picture of the event
with the requested road closure.
• Item K-3 – This change order was a last-minute change to the project because of the
size of the drop pipe into the casing being just a little too tight for everyone’s
comfort. There has been a lot of back-and-forth with this issue between the engineer
and the manufacturer. The change in the size of the pipe will only affect the output of
the well by 1%. Although this doesn’t functionally alter the project, the change order
must be approved so the final plans submitted and approved by the DNR are accurate.
The cost of the change order though will be reimbursed to the City.
• Item K-6 – This professional services agreement solidifies the City taking the lead on
the Highway 6 reconstruction project. There will continue to be a lot of joint
meetings with the DOT for the design and review of the project but by taking the
lead, this allows the City to stay in front of the project and have a little more control
over the schedule. Once an agreement is reached with the DOT, in some form the
City will be reimbursed for this expense. Reimbursement could come in the form of a
specific shared expense of the project, construction observation or a credit on the
agreement.
• Item K-10 – This position within the Water and Wastewater Department is one we
talked about and budgeted for within next year’s budget. Because of the workload of
the department with the water system pilot, we targeted July for this position to start.
Per the collective bargaining agreement, we will first post the opening internally.
• Just FYI, the Good Neighbor Meeting for the Daytona Estates (attached) is scheduled
for Tuesday, June 27th, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
• Another FYI, the Board of Supervisors meeting on Friday went well. The City is set
for a Special Election on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, on the issue of potentially
instituting a local option sales tax.
