CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL – NOTES FOR WORK SESSION ITEMS
July 7, 2023
• We will continue the conversation on the Local Option Sales Tax on Tuesday night. I will
have updated materials and information for the educational campaign for the special
election. I will also talk about the dates for the public information meetings leading up to
the special elections. Please note that we will start the work session at 5:30 p.m. This is
to make sure we have enough time to get through both items on the agenda as I want to
spend as much time as needed on this issue.
• As the City continues to grow and as the demand on the City’s water system continues to
increase, it might be time to revisit the single-use or irrigation water meter ordinance.
With the City having just finished drilling its third well, moving forward, a general
practice of conservation is something the City might want to consider to hopefully delay
the drilling of a fourth well in the near future. To accommodate builders or homeowners
of a new house as sod or grass is being established, the City could offer a one-time sewer
bill credit for the water use. The credit could be capped at a maximum number of gallons
to make it easy to implement. Another reason to potentially revisit this issue now would
be because of the RO System we are planning on upgrading the water plant to in 2025.
This would be another demand on the system that in the end, would cost more money.
