CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
October 13, 2023
• Just like we did at the September 19th meeting, the Mayor will swear in two more Fire
Department personnel at the beginning of the meeting.
• Item K-3 – As a follow-up to the last council meeting, the purchase of the radar speed
signs for Croell Avenue will cost about $7500.
• Item K-6 – Included in the packet is a rendering of the sponsorship sign for the Tiffin
Soccer Fields. The new Children’s Dental Center has committed to a sponsorship of
$9000 over three years for the fields. We’d like to have council approval to proceed
with the purchase and placement of the sign.
• The new stop signs and stop ahead signs have been installed at the intersection of
Dogwood Lane and Croell Avenue. We installed the same new style of blinking
signs that are at Goldfinch Drive and Potter Street.
• As a follow-up to my last report, I’d like to schedule a department tour of the Water
Plant at the next work session on November 7th. I think this would be a good time to
review the current layout of the facility and look at some of the potential changes that
will happen with the upgrade. We will have the tour at the beginning of the work
session.
• We experienced some issues with Well #4 last week. The well was down for about a
day as we had to have the pump and motor pulled. It appears that both are going bad.
We believe this is still the result of the electrolysis that exists in the Jordan well. A
temporary pump and motor have been installed and the well will function as it
previously did. The temporary pump and motor will stay in place until a permanent
pump and motor are installed.
• Just a friendly reminder the next Joint Entities Meeting is scheduled for Monday,
October 16th at 4:30 p.m. The meeting will be hosted by the Iowa City Community
School District and will be at their district office located at 1725 North Dodge Street.
Attached is the meeting agenda.
• I’ve talked to Sheriff Kunkel about a follow-up to his Law Enforcement presentation
that we had on September 25th. If it works in everyone’s schedule, we’d like to have
a Special City Council meeting for Tuesday, October 24th, to continue the discussion.
Please let me know on Tuesday if that will work for each of you.
