I’ve given this serious thought and staying at 4 deputies (168 hours) is not doable. By year three I need
to have 6 total personnel assigned to Tiffin in order to have enough depth in the schedule to cover
training, time off, illness etc. I’m confident that Tiffin’s growth will continue fast enough to require this
many deputies. If we stayed at 4 into year three this would have a significant impact on the rest of my
patrol division as I would need to reassign deputies or hire overtime to cover open shifts. Our needs
across the rest of the county will continue to grow as well and I need to think about how to staff for the
needs of the 6 other contract towns and the rural residents.
However, to make this work for Tiffin and stay below seven figures at year three, I’ve stretched out the
rate reduction an extra year. As you can see in the attachment, by making this rate change the cost
doesn’t top one million until FY 28 and is only 1.1 million in FY 29 where the rate is still at a 5%
reduction.
