CITY OF TIFFIN
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
August 30, 2024
• The kickoff to the Special Census has begun with the review of the Boundary and
Annexation Survey (BAS). Prior to September 10th, I will be reviewing the City’s
current boundaries, streets and street names for accuracy. Any needed updates will be
changed in the census bureau’s mapping application to further secure the exactness of
process.
• On Wednesday of next week Jessica Junker from Core Distinction Group will be in
Tiffin to take a community tour for the hotel market feasibility survey. During the tour
Jessica will be assessing the potential demand generators for a hotel as well as
evaluating the potential sites for a new hotel. Once that is complete, the next step will
be to send out an online ‘demand generator survey’. This will be a short survey that
will also help determine the need, size and potential amenities of a new hotel.
• Sadly, Herky on Parade has ended. All of the Herky statues have been picked up and
will be on display for FRYFest on Friday. However, on Tuesday of next week we will
get the ‘Knee High by the 4th of July’ Herky statue back that was in the Jim Bartels
Tiffin City Park and was jointly purchased by the City and the Tiffin Community Fund.
The permanent location of the statue will be in front of City Hall.
• Just a friendly reminder of the Iowa League of Cities Annual Conference on September
18-20 in Sioux City. For those of you who are going, we will coordinate transportation
as the event gets a little closer. We will also try to coordinate some of the sessions we
will be attending.
• Isaac Sorensen, the CCA student, has completed his Eagle Scout project of building
and installing a covered bench on the north side of the Big Pond. The project looks
great and adds a much needed ‘sitting spot’ on that side of the pond. I’ve asked Isaac
(but do not have confirmation yet) to be in attendance on Tuesday night to simply take
a couple of minutes to talk to the council about the project.
