AGENDA ITEM # K-8 AGENDA INFORMATION TIFFIN CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION DATE: July 31, 2025 AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of Purchasing and Installation of a Bike Repair Station Along the Tiffin Trail System ACTION: Motion Background At the July 15, 2025, City Council meeting, members expressed interest in installing bike repair stations along Tiffin’s trail system. The discussion emphasized the current lack of accessible repair options for cyclists who experience mechanical issues while using the trails. Presently, the nearest bike repair station is in Coralville, which is not a practical solution for Tiffin residents or trail users in need of immediate assistance. Following the meeting, the Public Works Director researched available models and identified a full-featured bike repair station priced at $1,150. These stations are equipped with tools for basic repairs—such as tire inflation, chain adjustments, and brake tuning—and are built with durable, weather-resistant materials suitable for outdoor installation. Proposed Locations Public Works has identified several potential installation sites along the trail system, selected based on trail usage, accessibility, and proximity to residential areas. The recommended locations include: • South Park Road • Roberts Ferry Road • Park Place Recommendation City staff supports this initiative as a meaningful enhancement to Tiffin’s trail amenities. Installing a bike repair station will improve safety and convenience for cyclists, while also encouraging greater use of the trail system and promoting a more bike-friendly community.
