2. Kinetic Fiber Project Update – Matt Graham [AMENDED: Late Addition]
Discussion: Building Official Brian Shay would like MSA opinion on telescoping and depth for the water and sewer lines. Council would strongly recommend education to go before restoration begins. Along with the other areas of Tiffin.
Discussion: Sheriff Kunkel was present to discuss the proposed jail bond. He noted that the county has needed a new jail for approximately 25 years and that construction costs have increased significantly, nearly doubling. The proposed facility would be located on Melrose Avenue and include a 140-bed jail and Sheriff’s Office. The estimated tax impact would be $88 per $100,000 of taxable valuation, with a proposed 12-year bond term.
Alec Skubal, 130 Railroad St, had strong support for Tom and his leadership. He also supports the idea of having a part-time training officer. He is in favor of the proposed job description changes, noting that the current requirements could limit the applicant pool. He would like to see the changes implemented to attract a broader range of qualified candidates.
