CITY OF TIFFIN ORDINANCE NO. 1997-214 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 145 AND ADOPTING THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE FOR ALL NEW CONSTRUCTION IN THE CITY AND ADOPTING ADDITIONAL FIRE SAFETY PROVISIONS FOR THE CITY OF TIFFIN, IOWA: BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TIFFIN, IOWA: Section 1. Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to repeal Ordinance No.145 of the Municipal Code of Tiffin, Iowa, and adopt in its place the Uniform Building Code for all new construction in the City and adopting certain fire safety requirements. Section 2. Uniform Building Code adoption. The Uniform Building Code is hereby adopted for all construction in the City. The City shall maintain a copy of the Code available for public reference. Section 3. Fire Safety Provisions. The following situations shall require sprinkler systems as follows: An automatic sprinkler system shall be installed throughout: A. every apartment house with three (3) floors of residential occupancy, three (3) or more stories in height or containing nine (9) or more dwelling units; B. every congregate residence of three (3) floors, three (3) or more stories in height, or having an occupant load of twenty (20) or more; and C. every hotel three (3) or more stories in height or containing twenty (20) or more guest rooms. Residential or quick-response standard sprinklers shall be used in the dwelling units and guest room portions of the building. For the purpose of this section area separation walls used to define separate buildings shall have no openings. EXCEPTION: Sprinklers may be omitted in townhouse style buildings containing less than nine (9) dwelling units and three (3) floors of residential occupancy. Section __4__. Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed. Section __5__. Severability.
