Present: Mayor O'Toole, Wayne Stratton, Bill Verry, Ted Spivey, Glenn Potter, Jr., Bob Svatos.
OLD BUSINESS: Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Wayne moved, Bill seconded the motion that Ted Spivey be approved as a councilman to fill Paul Springmire's vacancy. Carried.
Picnic Tables. Wayne reported that Nagle Lumber has new steel park bench frames but have not completed construction of the tables and have not priced them. He said, however, that Clifford Reynolds has a well-built wooden picnic table which he would sell Wayne for $15.00. Wayne moved, Glenn seconded the motion that the Town buy this table if Mr. Reynolds is willing. Carried.
Water. Willis Miller, well driller, suggested that we drill our own well because the Flensburg and Files casings were only 2 inches. It would cost about $100. The Mayor attended the next meeting of the School Board, and asked for permission to drill on the school ball diamond. They agreed at the time, but later asked for assurance that the Town would be responsible for filling up the hole, etc. It is suggested that a letter be written by Mr. Tucker to the School Board, stating where the well will be dug and that the Town will be responsible for filling the hole. Wayne so moved, Bill seconded the motion. Carried.
Streets. Copies of Pelling's letter of June 22 were distributed and discussed. Also, a number of street supervisors and workers had highly recommended a patching roller with a butane heater. After some discussion, Ted moved, and Glenn seconded the motion to buy this roller for $295.95 from Hawkeye Machinery in Cedar Rapids, plus the additional accessory of a gas tank. Motion carried. A load of cold patching has been ordered, but no one has been found who will haul it.
Trees. It is a proven statistical fact that it costs you at least as much to take out the dead trees killed by Dutch elm disease as it does to have a sanitation program. Road Use Tax money can be used for parkway trees. Tree ordinances will have to be worked up to protect the Town.
NEW BUSINESS.
Money received: Frank Jedlicka . $50. It was moved by Bill and Jay Baldwin . 50. seconded by Bob that this Robert Madden . 50. money be accepted. Carried.
